Mason County extended the longest winning streak in 3A District 6 this week by beating West Carter, 49-0. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Mason County made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,138 from 8,356. The improvement came about via a 49-0 victory over the Comets last week.
David Buchanan's team's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jake Omara threw for 219 and three touchdowns and Tee King had 163 yards receiving. On the ground Rashaun Nelson chipped in 153 yards. Ashton Humphrey helped Mason County's passing attack out by catching one ball for 28 yards.
Mason County's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Royals feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Omara has thrown for 248 yards and two touchdowns this season, while King has 12 catches for 197 yards. Nelson leads the league in rushing with 708 yards.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when the Royals take on Fleming County. Mason County's offense has recorded 226 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while the Panthers have permitted only 152 on the year.
A big matchup in 3A District 6 this week will be when Fleming County takes on the Royals. As it stands, Bill Spencer's team is in second, while Mason County is in third.
The Royals led the league in scoring this week after putting up 49 points on West Carter. Omara ran for five yards in the win.
