It was a good run, but the Lawrence Academy Warriors unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Crossroads Christian an easy 74-52 win. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Lawrence Academy has scored all season.
Despite the defeat, Lawrence Academy saw an underclassman step up: Mari Larry dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds. Those 27 points set a new season-high mark for him. Conner Ferebee was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Even though they lost, Lawrence Academy were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Crossroads Christian only pulled down 23 offensive rebounds.
Ben Gladieux continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Crossroads Christian, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 17 rebounds. That makes it six consecutive games in which Gladieux has scored at least 25% of Crossroads Christian's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ely Phillips, who scored 20 points.
Lawrence Academy's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-2. As for Crossroads Christian, they pushed their record up to 10-1 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Lawrence Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Northeast Academy at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2024. Northeast Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 685th, while Lawrence Academy is ranked 182nd). Crossroads Christian is on the road again on December 27th and play against Grovetown at 7:00 p.m. on December 27th.
