Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up seven more assists than your opponent, a fact the Tremont Eagles proved on Friday. They strolled past Smithville with points to spare, taking the game 39-22. For Tremont, this counts as revenge for the 45-34 defeat Smithville walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February.
Saige Black was the offensive standout of the match as she scored 13 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Tremont's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kara George, who scored 9 points.
Several Seminoles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mary Haley Hood, who scored 6 points along with 9 rebounds. Hood scored a full 27.3% of Smithville's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Mikayla Wall was another key contributor, scoring 4 points.
Tremont now has a winning record of 4-3-1. As for Smithville, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tremont will take on Wheeler at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Wheeler focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Saturday. Smithville will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Mantachie at 6:00 p.m. on December 5th. Mantachie is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.
