5A Region IV District 29 recap October 22, 2013
Miguel Lopez of United South ran for the longest rushing play in 5A Region IV District 29 this season against Winn last week. Lopez ran for 70 yards on the play and finished with 158 on the day as his team topped the Mavericks.
United South moved up to 483 from 524 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Sergio Salinas' team was able to move up by besting Winn 28-7.
United's dynamic duo of Derek Esparza and Eric Corona proved tough for Eagle Pass to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Esparza threw for 253 yards and 2 touchdowns and Corona had 159 yards receiving. Zachary Williams helped United's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 34 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Alexander's Aaron Swain and Marc Lozoya have proven to be a lethal combination. Swain has thrown for 1,989 yards this season, while Lozoya has 42 catches for 923 yards. Isaac Cabello from the Panthers leads the league in rushing with 703 yards.
The Bulldogs' Lozoya is a few successful plays short of surpassing 1,000 yards receiving this season. He needs only 77 receiving yards against United South to hit that benchmark. He has recorded 42 catches for 923 yards this year.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when Alexander's Lozoya goes up against the Panthers' Elias Perales.
Going into this week's game against United South, Joel Lopez's team's Swain needs 11 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season.
Next week's game between the Bulldogs and the Panthers will feature an aerial matchup as Swain tests his arm against Perales' defensive ability.
An important game coming up in 5A Region IV District 29 this week will be when Alexander takes on United South. At the moment, the Bulldogs are in second, while the Panthers are in third.
