After a string of three wins, the Sumner Stingrays's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 70-69 to Robinson. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Friday (64), Sumner still had to take the loss.
Despite the defeat, Sumner had strong showings from Isaiah Williams, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds, and Jacob Douglas, who scored 15 points along with six assists and two steals. Douglas has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. Another player making a difference was Devin Baker, who scored 11 points.
Robinson got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was LaJesse Harrold out in front who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Harrold has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Russell, who scored 15 points along with seven assists.
Sumner's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-5. As for Robinson, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-7.
Sumner won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Brandon at 8:00 p.m. on January 17th. Brandon is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. Robinson won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Steinbrenner at 8:00 p.m. on January 17th. Steinbrenner will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 604th, while Robinson is ranked 262nd).
