Southeast Yosemite recap Oct. 23, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Highland, who took down 617th ranked Highland, 34-6. Marcus Rojas threw for 112 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 63 yards in the win.
Tehachapi extended the longest winning streak in Southeast Yosemite this week by beating North, 41-13. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Warriors.
Garces's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Cruise Adams threw for 132 and three touchdowns and Jake Sweaney had 86 yards receiving. On the ground Sheldon Croney chipped in 200 yards. Dominic Frasch helped Garces' passing attack out by catching two balls for 39 yards.
Brandon Fanning provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Foothill lost to the Rams. He completed one pass for 31 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 174 yards. Fanning's favorite target this week was Jacob Delarosa, who caught one pass for 35 yards.
Tevin Bailey made the biggest impact on defense this week as East Bakersfield topped the Scots. The 5-foot-5 senior pulled down two interceptions.
Garces' Adams and Angus Bellue have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Adams has thrown for 1713 yards this season, while Bellue, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 27 catches for 665 yards. Fanning from the Trojans leads the league in rushing with 1249 yards.
Jorge Garcia of the Tehachapi is only 38 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 121 carries Garcia has accumulated 962 yard this year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Steve Denman's team takes on Mike Gregg's team. The Warriors are currently in first, while the Trojans are in third.
The Blades moved up to 688 from 792 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Southeast Yosemite. East Bakersfield climbed the ranks as a result of topping Highland 34-6.
