Softball Recap: Northwestern Has No Trouble Against North Union

Northwestern hadn't done well against North Union recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Warriors blew past the Wildcats 9-3. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won seven matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Addy Hensley made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Azzy Hammer, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Sophia Pamer, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Northwestern hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive contests.

Northwestern has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-8 record this season. As for North Union, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 10-12.

Northwestern wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, an 8-0 victory against Catholic Central on the 8th. As for North Union, they will venture away from home to square off against Bellefontaine at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Chieftains have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
