It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Fernandina Beach Pirates had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged the Hornets out 60-57. With that victory, Fernandina Beach brought their scoring average up to 50.2 points per game.
Fernandina Beach was led to victory by Chase Landtroop and Jesse Basse. Landtroop scored 21 points, while Basse scored 20 points along with five rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Landtroop has scored at least a third of Fernandina Beach's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshua Modupe, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.
Defeat or not, Yulee got some senior leadership from Alex Naumow and Jordan Austin. Naumow scored 17 points along with three steals, while Austin. scored 18 points. Another player making a difference was Carter Kirchner, who scored eight points.
Fernandina Beach's victory bumped their record up to 16-10. As for Yulee, they now have a losing record at 12-13.
Fernandina Beach will square off against Andrew Jackson at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Andrew Jackson will roll in looking for their 16th straight victory, something Fernandina Beach surely won't give up without a fight. Yulee does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
