The Smoky Mountain Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fifth straight loss. They fell to Tuscola 53-49. Smoky Mountain was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Tuscola apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Despite the loss, Smoky Mountain still got an impressive performance from Dayritzis Chinea, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. Chinea has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Anna Mahar, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and three blocks.
Among those leading the charge was Karsen Cherry, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendall Williamson, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds.
Smoky Mountain has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Tuscola, their win bumped their record up to 5-11.
Smoky Mountain will head out on the road to challenge East Henderson at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. That game will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Kaylee Foushee and Greenlee Flynn. As for Tuscola, they will be playing at home against West Henderson at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
