The Crestwood Red Devils came tearing into Tuesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Southeast by a score of 58-47. Given Crestwood's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 212th, while the Pirates are ranked 489th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Crestwood to victory, but perhaps none more so than Charlie Schweickert, who scored 21 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was James Durham, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
When it comes to explaining why Southeast lost, one person who can't be blamed is Garrett Sprutte. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 29 points and 16 rebounds. That was a full 61.7% of Southeast's points, marking the 15th time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Southeast struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Crestwood racked up 14 assists.
Crestwood's victory bumped their record up to 14-2. As for Southeast, they now have a losing record at 7-8.
Crestwood will head out on the road to challenge the Hornets at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. Kirtland will be looking to keep their seven-game home win streak alive. Southeast will take on the Wildcats at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. Mogadore knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully the Pirates like a good challenge.
