Baseball Recap: Whitko Has No Trouble Against Elwood

Whitko won the last time they faced Elwood and things went their way on Saturday too. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 21-7 margin over the Panthers. Considering the Wildcats have won seven games by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Riley Harman made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of Whitko's success: when he allows at most three hits the team is undefeated (and 5-6 when he doesn't). Harman was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Chandler Cox was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and five runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Ethen Morris was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Whitko always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .698. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Elwood only posted an OBP of .423.

Whitko is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Elwood, they are on a 14-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-19.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Whitko will head out to face off against Manchester at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Elwood, they will venture away from home to challenge Monroe Central at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Golden Bears have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season.
