The Southside Tigers suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 71-42 loss at the hands of Powdersville. While losing is never fun, Southside can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 160th, while Powdersville is ranked 20th).
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Shakem Griffin, who scored ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden Johnson, who scored 14 points.
Southside struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Powdersville racked up 14 assists.
Hayden Assemian continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Powdersville, scoring 24 points along with nine rebounds. Assemian has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times he's played. Nick Sweet was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Southside's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Powdersville, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-3.
Southside will be playing at home against Belton-Honea Path at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Belton-Honea Path is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. As for Powdersville, they will square off against Riverside at 2:30 p.m. on Monday. Riverside is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.
