The Pomona Panthers are taking a road trip to challenge the Mountain Range Mustangs at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Pomona managed to slip by Thomas Jefferson the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Panthers came up short against the Spartans on Thursday, falling 15-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Panthers have suffered since April 26, 2025.
Pomona saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gage Douglas, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Riley Biesk was another, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mountain Range). They blew past Wheat Ridge 18-3 on Thursday. With that win, the Mustangs brought their scoring average up to 7.8 runs per game.
Sol Gutierrez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Gutierrez was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season.
In other batting news, Mountain Range got a massive performance out of Brevin Hefner, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave Hefner a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Noah Espinoza, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Mountain Range was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .593. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
Mountain Range's record now sits at 2-3. As for Pomona, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.
Pomona beat Mountain Range 7-3 in their previous meeting back in March of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
