The Walker Valley Mustangs will square off against the Girls Prep Bruisers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Walker Valley comes in on three and Girls Prep on eight.
On Friday, Walker Valley beat New Hope 5-2.
Olivia Presswood made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run.
In other batting news, Alyssa Davenport was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Autumn Lanclos, who scored a run while going 1-for-1.
Walker Valley lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, Girls Prep was able to grind out a solid win over Signal Mountain on Friday, taking the game 6-3.
Girls Prep also got a great performance from Addison Jones as she struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave Jones a new career-high.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Calieah Reyes, who scored a run while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Ansley Bratcher was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
Walker Valley pushed their record up to 17-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Girls Prep, their record is now 15-4.
Both Walker Valley and Girls Prep just can't seem to miss. The Mustangs have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. However, it's not like Girls Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.1 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Walker Valley skirted past Girls Prep 2-0 in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
