V Section IV recap November 5, 2013
Tempe Prep's Isaiah Brittain recorded the longest rushing play in V Section IV this season in his game against Scottsdale Preparatory Academy last week. Brittain scampered for 94 yards on the play and finished with 184 on the day as his team bested the Spartans.
Jack Johnson and Cole Lenderink provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Valley Christian. The connection went for 95 yards, the longest such play in the league this season.
Nick Smith threw for 257 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was 20-34 with 2 interceptions.
Braxton Barger was a passing and rushing force as Chandler Prep defeated Paradise Honors.
Will Lane was a key player and the best on defense this week as Scottsdale Christian Academy bested the Trojans. The 5-foot-10 defensive lineman racked up 3 sacks.
Barger was a force in the backfield as the Titans defeated Paradise Honors.
Ben McKeighan was the best receiver in the league this week as Scottsdale Preparatory Academy lost to Tempe Prep. McKeighan tallied 7 receptions for 132 yards. Matt Munsil helped Scottsdale Preparatory Academy's passing attack out by catching 10 balls for 113 yards.
Will Munsil's team's Smith and Munsil have formed a dream team this season, leading V Section IV in both passing and receiving yards. 6-2 quarterback Smith has thrown for 2,566 yards this season, while Munsil has 58 catches for 1,136 yards. The Eagles' Zechariah Gatling leads the league in rushing yards with 1,152.
The Spartans' McKeighan is a few successful plays short of surpassing 1,000 yards receiving this season. He needs only 37 receiving yards against Joy Christian to hit that benchmark. He has recorded 53 catches for 963 yards this year.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Thomas Brittain's team beat Scottsdale Preparatory Academy 27-26. The win marks seventh in a row for the the Knights.
