Wayne proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by three) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Stanton Mustangs 3-2. The win was nothing new for the Blue Devils as they're now sitting on six straight.
Wayne wouldn't go down easily and took Stanton into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. The final score came out to 25-23, 25-15, 21-25, 17-25, 15-13.
Alexis Legler paced Wayne's offense, picking up 11 kills. Legler got some help from Mallory Redden and her 34 assists. Finally, Megan Magnuson kept Wayne's defense grounded, leading the team with four blocks.
Despite the loss, Stanton saw an underclassman step up: freshman Hazel Schellpeper had ten digs and two aces.
Wayne's victory bumped their record up to 15-8. As for Stanton, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four matches and leaves them with a 14-6 record.
Looking ahead, Wayne will face off against Boone Central on Tuesday. As for Stanton, they will challenge Howells-Dodge on Tuesday.
