Smithsburg is 9-1 against the Blazers since February of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Smithsburg Leopards will face off against the Clear Spring Blazers at TBD. Smithsburg is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road.
Smithsburg pushed their score all the way to 59 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 68-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of Middletown. Smithsburg has struggled against the Knights recently, as their game on Thursday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Smithsburg had strong showings from Skyla Mastronardi, who almost dropped a double-double on 29 points and nine rebounds, and Maren McFarland, who scored 13 points along with seven assists and four steals. Mastronardi hasn't dropped below two steals for 11 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Molly Weaver, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Clear Spring didn't have too much breathing room in their game against the Railroaders on Friday, but they still walked away with a 37-32 win. The victory was just what Clear Spring needed coming off of a 55-23 defeat in their prior game.
Smithsburg's loss dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Clear Spring, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 6-11 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Smithsburg against the Blazers in their previous meeting back in January as the squad secured a 69-38 victory. Does Smithsburg have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blazers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
