If the Cumberland Dukes were riding high off their 66-26 takedown of the Fuqua Falcons last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Cumberland took a 80-68 hit to the loss column at the hands of Amelia County on Friday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Wednesday (66), Cumberland still had to take the loss.
Amelia County was led to victory by JUSTIN PERRY and JAIDEN SQUIRE. PERRY scored 27 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, while SQUIRE scored 27 points along with five steals and three blocks. PERRY is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. TODD SPURLOCK JR was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Cumberland now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Amelia County, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cumberland will take on Lunenburg Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lunenburg Central is no doubt hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses. As for Amelia County, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Randolph-Henry at 7:00 p.m. Randolph-Henry has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 2-1 during that stretch of close contests.
