The North Putnam Cougars's six-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They walked away with a 53-46 victory over West Vigo. The win was just what North Putnam needed coming off of a 84-46 defeat in their prior game.
North Putnam's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lexi Daigle led the charge by dropping a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Rose Haste, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
West Vigo lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jaycee Elkins, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Hannah Stepp, who scored 14 points along with six blocks.
North Putnam's victory bumped their record up to 6-10. As for West Vigo, they bumped their record down to 2-15 with that defeat, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Putnam won't have much time to rest: their next game is against North Montgomery at 2:30 p.m. on January 6th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Indiana (North Montgomery is ranked 292nd, while North Putnam is ranked 294th). As for West Vigo, they will head out on the road to square off against Cloverdale on Tuesday. Cloverdale comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 20 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
