2A District 4 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Lake Mary Prep moved up to 285 from 334 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A District 4. A 57-3 win over Santa Fe Catholic helped the Griffins improve their standing.
Lake Mary Prep extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Hawks, 57-3. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Foundation Academy's dynamic duo of Alec Thompson and Kevett Mickle proved tough for Orlando Christian Prep to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Thompson threw for 180 yards and three touchdowns and Mickle had 66 yards receiving. Gary Hibbert helped Foundation Academy's passing attack out by catching three balls for 63 yards.
Jeremiah Sams was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 12 carries, he ran for 282 yards as the Griffins topped the Warriors. Teammate Ray Lewis lll added to the ground attack by rushing for 179 yards.
Foundation Academy's Thompson and Hibbert have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 2A District 4 in both passing and receiving yards. Thompson has thrown for 521 yards this season, while Hibbert, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 10 catches for 216 yards. Sams from Lake Mary Prep leads the league in rushing with 963 yards.
Sams of the the Griffins is only 37 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Brad Lord's team takes on Mount Dora Bible. At the moment, the Lions are in third, while the Bulldogs are in second.
Orlando Christian Prep was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fourth in the league. The Warriors defeated the Warriors 19-6 earlier in the week.
