Northeast Kansas recap October 8, 2013
Austin Geenens of Maur Hill Prep-Mount Academy ran for the longest rushing play in Northeast Kansas this season against Doniphan West last week. Geenens scampered for 81 yards on the play and finished with 164 on the day as his team fell to the Mustangs.
Jefferson County North was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to sixth in the league. The Chargers defeated Immaculata 32-8 earlier in the week.
Geenens provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Maur Hill Prep-Mount Academy lost to Doniphan West.
Josh Allen made the biggest impact on defense this week as Horton lost to Marion. The 6-foot-2 senior recorded 1 fumble.
Geenens was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 15 carries, he ran for 164 yards as Jermaine Monroe's team fell to the Warriors. Brian Scott also contributed to the rushing game with 64 yards on the ground.
Horton's Derrick Stone and Bayles have formed a dream team this season, leading Northeast Kansas in both passing and receiving yards. 5-10 quarterback Stone has thrown for 821 yards this season, while Bayles has 18 catches for 404 yards. Pleasant Ridge's Nick Holmes leads the league in rushing yards with 707.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Jefferson County North takes on McLouth. Mark Mcmillan's team is currently in sixth, while the Bulldogs are in third.
Nick Dowell's team lost to Marion 53-12 last week, the largest margin of any game. Stone threw for 70 yards and 1 touchdown and ran for 58 yards in the loss.
