Pharr-San Juan-Alamo is 1-9 against Edinburg since January of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Bears will be playing at home against the Edinburg Bobcats at 7:30 p.m. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo beat Edinburg North 39-34.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rebeca Tinoco, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Jackie Molina was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Meanwhile, Edinburg put the finishing touches on their 20th blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past La Joya 65-9 on the road. Edinburg is really starting to get used to good results now that the team's won 12 straight.
Edinburg got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kimora Fagan out in front who scored 23 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Fagan hasn't dropped below two steals for ten straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Carranco, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo's victory bumped their record up to 9-18. As for Edinburg, their victory was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 27-2.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Pharr-San Juan-Alamo have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 28.9 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Edinburg, though, as they've been averaging only 31.4 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo was dealt a bruising 79-24 loss at the hands of Edinburg in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Pharr-San Juan-Alamo was down 42-12.
