Basketball Recap: Swallows Charter Academy Takes a Loss

After flying high against Rye on Thursday, Swallows Charter Academy came back down to earth. The Swallows Charter Academy Spartans fell just short of the Frontier Academy Wolverines by a score of 50-47 on Friday.

When it comes to explaining why Swallows Charter Academy lost, don't look at Mike Vazquez. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Vazquez a new career-high in steals (two). Christian Garcia was another key player, putting up eight points and ten rebounds.

Even though they lost, Swallows Charter Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in eight consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Frontier Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lucas Carmichael, who posted 12 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Robles, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 10 points.

Swallows Charter Academy's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Frontier Academy, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-3.

Swallows Charter Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 47-41 defeat against Center on the 21st. As for Frontier Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 57-51 win against Fowler on the 21st.
