The Antigo Red Robins will venture away from home to challenge the Medford Raiders at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Antigo will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
On Tuesday, Antigo was able to grind out a solid victory over Lakeland, taking the game 6-2.
Bethany Lewis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ava Cornelious, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.
Medford came out on top against Tomahawk on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run first inning. The Raiders blew past the Hatchets 12-1. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by seven runs or more this season.
Rylee Hraby made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had over her last nine matchups.
In other batting news, Medford got a massive performance out of Chelsea Gebauer, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Grace Schmidtfanz was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two runs.
Medford kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tomahawk only managed four hits.
Medford is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Antigo, they pushed their record up to 11-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Antigo suffered a grim 10-2 defeat to Medford in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Red Robins avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
