Calhoun has gone 9-1 against Pleasant Hill recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Warriors will take on the Wolves at 4:30 p.m. Calhoun is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
Calhoun came out on top against Seymour on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run third inning. The Warriors put the hurt on the Indians with a sharp 15-0 victory. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 matches by six runs or more this season.
Audrey Gilman made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 18 consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lilly Pelletier, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Annie Wilson, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Calhoun lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Pleasant Hill, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Liberty 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wolves have posted since May 22, 2024.
Ava Wombles was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. Wombles was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Calhoun's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-6. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Pleasant Hill, their record now sits at 11-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Calhoun has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Pleasant Hill struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Calhoun took their win against Pleasant Hill in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 9-2 score. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wolves turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
