Anthony Wayne saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lyla Carrizales, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Northview took on Bowling Green on Monday. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Bobcats with a sharp 9-1 win. The Wildcats have beaten the Bobcats the last seven times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bobcats has come to flipping the script.
Kaitlyn Eckel made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brynn Mitchell, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emily Bueschen, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Northview's victory bumped their record up to 13-5. As for Anthony Wayne, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 16-2.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Anthony Wayne has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .444. However, it's not like Northview struggles in that department as they've averaged .444. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Anthony Wayne skirted past Northview 4-2 in their previous matchup on April 10th. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Generals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
