It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Pomeroy Pirates can now relate to. They suffered a rough 78-58 loss at the hands of Naselle on Saturday. Pomeroy's defeat signaled the end of their nine-game winning streak.
Pomeroy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Jett Slusser, who threw for 311 yards and four touchdowns on only 19 passes, and also rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Oliver Severs, who picked up 223 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
It was another big night for Jacob Lindstrom, who rushed for 346 yards and seven touchdowns while picking up 13.8 yards per carry, and also threw for 124 yards and a touchdown. Lindstrom has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Strange, who gained 194 total yards and three touchdowns.
Pomeroy's defeat dropped their record down to 9-2. As for Naselle, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-1.
Pomeroy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Naselle will face off against Wilbur-Creston-Keller at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Wilbur-Creston-Keller is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
