The Augusta E Eagles will square off against the Community Christian Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Augusta E is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Georgia's top teams: Georgia School for Innovation & Classics, who was ranked eighth at the time (Augusta E was ranked 17th). The Eagles took a 24-20 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Patriots on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Patriots: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the loss, Augusta E saw an underclassman step up: freshman Walter Fullbright threw for 273 yards and three touchdowns on only 18 passes. A healthy portion of Fullbright's aerial production (132 yards to be exact) went to Luke Reese.
Even if they lost, Augusta E's defense still kept up the pressure with four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Community Christian). They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 41-8 win over New Creation Christian Academy. The victory was nothing new for the Knights as they're now sitting on three straight.
Community Christian had a senior duo take command as Isaiah Lee gained 118 total yards and three touchdowns and Fredrico Jones threw for 131 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 83.3% of his passes. Lee showed off some serious burst, lighting up the secondary with a catch for 50 yards.
Community Christian didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Jones. Another thorn in New Creation Christian Academy's side was Jhamal Woodley, who forced two fumbles and made ten total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Community Christian's win bumped their record up to 6-1-1. As for Augusta E, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Augusta E has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 195 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Community Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 183.1 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
