Chilton County is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Marbury is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Chilton County Tigers will take on the Marbury Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Saturday, Chilton County didn't have too much trouble with Calera on the road as they won 63-44. Given Chilton County's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 121st, while Calera is ranked 296th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Iasia Anderson was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a triple-double on 16 points, 12 assists, and nine steals. Anderson is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Ivyonna Varner, who scored 17 points along with eight steals and five rebounds.
In what's become a running theme this season, Marbury gave their fans yet another huge win on Thursday. They put the hurt on Elmore County with a sharp 52-28 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Marbury has posted yet this season.
Marbury can attribute much of their success to Nasiyah Jernigan, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds, and Justice Blackmon, who scored 19 points along with six steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Blackmon has scored all season. Elizabeth Woodfin was another key contributor, scoring three points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Chilton County has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. As for Marbury, their victory bumped their record up to 7-5.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Chilton County hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 54.4 points per game. However, it's not like Marbury struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 51.2 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Chilton County came out on top in a nail-biter against Marbury in their previous matchup back in November of 2023, sneaking past 55-53. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Marbury's Gabrielle Brown, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Chilton County still be able to contain him? There's only one way to find out.
