The Mt. Carmel Golden Aces will challenge the Massac County Patriots at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mt. Carmel is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Mt. Carmel fell victim to Carmi-White County and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Bulldogs, falling 10-0. The Golden Aces have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Mt. Carmel saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jayden Smith, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Massac County). They were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over Crab Orchard on Monday.
Adan Mizell made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Max Elliott and Zach Maurer did most of the damage at the plate: Elliott went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Maurer went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave Maurer a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ryan Musselman, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Massac County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Mt. Carmel's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Massac County, their record now sits at 13-2.
Mt. Carmel came out on top in a nail-biter against Massac County in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Aces since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
