The Enfield Eagles will venture away from home to challenge the Glastonbury Guardians at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Enfield had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 17-run drubbing they dealt East Hartford on Wednesday. The Eagles blew past the Hornets 18-1. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Hornets recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Cassidy Wallner made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Enfield let Claire Bouffard and Emily Lyver run wild. Bouffard went 3-for-5 with one home run, eight RBI, and three runs, while Lyver got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one triple. Those eight RBI gave Bouffard a new career-high. Payten Stebbins was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four runs.
Enfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, Glastonbury made sure to put some runs up on the board against East Catholic on Friday. The Guardians put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 22-14 victory. The Guardians' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Brooke Schlenger was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Sylvia Lewis, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Enfield's record now sits at 15-4. As for Glastonbury, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
Glastonbury's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. Enfield has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Glastonbury, though, as they've been averaging only 4.2 strikeouts. Will Enfield keep running through batters, or will the Guardians buck the trend?
Everything went Enfield's way against Glastonbury in their previous matchup back in April, as Enfield made off with a 10-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
