Basketball Recap: Davie Makes It Seven in a Row at Home

Davie had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They secured a 57-51 W over the R.J. Reynolds Demons. This was payback for the War Eagles, who suffered a 65-62 loss the last time these two teams met.

Davie got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jackson Powers out in front who shot 4-for-6 from long range and dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards. Powers has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Elliott Erlandsson, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 16 rebounds.

Davie smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

R.J. Reynolds lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Andreas Kazakos, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 16 points and four steals. Grant Burns was another key player, putting up 18 points along with seven boards and three steals.

Davie pushed their record up to 13-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points per game. As for R.J. Reynolds, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-9.

Davie will take on East Forsyth at 7:45 p.m. on January 24th. One thing working in East Forsyth's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five contests. R.J. Reynolds has already played their next game, a 65-63 defeat against Randleman on the 18th.
