The Westerly Bulldogs will venture away from home to challenge the Deltona Wolves at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Westerly is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Westerly is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: Coventry, who was ranked 14th at the time (Westerly was ranked 11th). The Bulldogs fell 8-4 to the Oakers on Tuesday. The Bulldogs haven't had much luck with the Oakers recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Westerly got a good showing from Avery Gingerella, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Gingerella has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Addison Poole made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, Deltona made easy work of Taylor on Thursday and carried off a 9-3 win. Considering the Wolves have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Allison Moore looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
On the hitting side, Deltona got a massive performance out of Sophia Weinrich, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. Those two triples gave Weinrich a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrea Stump, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Deltona kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 11 consecutive matchups.
Deltona is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Westerly, they suffered their first home defeat, dropping their record down to 5-3-1.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Westerly hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .366. However, it's not like Deltona struggles in that department as they've averaged .455. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
