Manzanita recap September 24, 2013
Holtville's Clayton Bowler rumbled for the longest rushing play in Manzanita this season in his game against Southwest last week. Bowler's team defeated the Eagles as he sprinted for 82 yards on the play and finished with 233 in all.
Holtville moved up to 666 from 714 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Keith Smith's team was able to move up by defeating Southwest 54-14.
Bowler was a beast in the backfield as the Vikings beat Joe Conner's team.
ABRAHAM GUTIERREZ made the biggest impact on defense this week as Vincent Memorial defeated Classical Academy. The 6-foot-1 sophomore.
DANIEL PALMA put up the best numbers through the air as the Scots beat Classical Academy. He finished with 7 completions for 148 yards and 2 touchdowns. PALMA's favorite target this week was JUAN MARTINEZ, who caught 2 passes for 55 yards.
David Lucero was the best receiver in the league this week as Holtville topped the Eagles. Lucero tallied 4 receptions for 65 yards.
Bowler was the best running back in Manzanita this week. Teammate Josh Osuna added to the ground attack by rushing for 76 yards.
Bowler provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Vikings beat Southwest.
Vincent Memorial's PALMA and ALEJANDRO GARCIA have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. PALMA has thrown for 595 yards this season, while GARCIA, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 11 catches for 211 yards. Crawford's Ray Lyons leads the league in rushing yards with 517.
Mountain Empire was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from sixth to fourth in the league. The Red Hawks beat Southwest 38-16 earlier in the week.
