Basketball Recap: Sunny Hills Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Ze'brien Watkins and Kamron Tonga

After flying high against Sierra Vista last Thursday, Sunny Hills came back down to earth. The Sunny Hills Lancers fell 56-45 to the Pacifica Christian/Santa Monica Seawolves on Friday. The Lancers' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Despite the defeat, Sunny Hills had strong showings from Kamron Tonga, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards, and Ze'Brien Watkins, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards. Tonga is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last four games he's played. Raeden Bobadilla was another key player, putting up seven points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Sunny Hills smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Leading Pacifica Christian/Santa Monica to victory were Darren Awili and Jessiah Casey. Awili dropped a double-double on 15 points and 19 boards, while Casey went 8 of 18 on his way to 23 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Terrence Thomas, who posted nine points and six rebounds.

Sunny Hills' loss dropped their record down to 12-7. As for Pacifica Christian/Santa Monica, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-6.

Sunny Hills wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 56-48 win against Troy on the 28th. As for Pacifica Christian/Santa Monica, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 52-36 defeat against Marina on the 28th.
