The Colusa RedHawks will head out on the road to face off against the Pierce Bears at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Colusa has five straight victories, Pierce has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Colusa posted their biggest win yet this season on Friday. They breezed by Live Oak on the road to the tune of 71-29. Given Colusa's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 543rd, while Live Oak is ranked 1361st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Landon Humphrey and Isaiah Travis were among the main playmakers for Colusa as the former scored 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals and the latter scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Humphrey hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Jace Mackaben was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with two steals.
While Pierce couldn't quite beat East Nicolaus on Friday, the three-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 20-point loss they were dealt on Wednesday. Pierce fell just short of East Nicolaus by a score of 54-51. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Pierce has suffered yet this season.
The losing side was boosted by Drew Burnum, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. He hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Alfonso Orozco, who scored 13 points.
Colusa is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for Pierce, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost 12 of their last 14 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Colusa hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 55.3 points per game. It's a different story for Pierce, though, as they've been averaging only 40.7 points per game. The only thing between Colusa and another offensive beatdown is Pierce. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Colusa beat Pierce 55-48 in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Does Colusa have another victory up their sleeve, or will Pierce turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
