The Alexandria Valley Cubs will be taking part in a tournament against the Orange Beach Makos at 4:10 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Alexandria comes in on five and Orange Beach on 24.
Alexandria had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Cleburne County on Thursday. The Valley Cubs never let the Tigers get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Valley Cubs, who have now won 16 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Pressley Slaton made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 2-for-2. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Alexandria got a massive performance out of Allyssa Hunt, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits Hunt has posted over her last five contests. Brenlee Sparks also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Meanwhile, Orange Beach is ranked highly in their home state and on Wednesday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of McCracken County. The Makos blew past the Mustangs 8-2. The Makos might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 games by six runs or more this season.
Like Alexandria, Orange Beach also got a great game from a two-way player: Kaitlynn Robertson. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Robertson was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ava Hodo, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Daigle Wilson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Orange Beach's victory was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 24-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Alexandria, their record now sits at 25-5-2.
