Calvert is 2-8 against Hopewell-Loudon since April of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Senecas will face off against the Chieftains at 1:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Calvert is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They put the hurt on Danbury with a sharp 18-5 win. Considering the Senecas have won 11 matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Ava Eilrich was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Eilrich was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Calvert got a massive performance out of Gracie Miller, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Miller has posted since back in April. Claire Shoenberger was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two runs.
Meanwhile, Hopewell-Loudon came tearing into Friday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 15-14 W against the Crimson Streaks. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Chieftains have posted since April 17th.
The team relied heavily on Morgan Hoover, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Avery Landers, who went 2-for-5 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Calvert pushed their record up to 18-4 with the win, which was their 13th straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Hopewell-Loudon, their win bumped their record up to 18-8.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Calvert hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .378. However, it's not like Hopewell-Loudon struggles in that department as they've averaged .319. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Calvert was able to grind out a solid victory over Hopewell-Loudon when the teams last played back in April, winning 6-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Senecas since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
