The Our Lady of Good Counsel Falcons are taking a road trip to challenge the Bishop McNamara Mustangs at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Our Lady of Good Counsel will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
Our Lady of Good Counsel is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Fairfax HomeSchool, who was ranked 23rd in their home state at the time (Our Lady of Good Counsel was ranked 23rd). The Falcons sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 15-13 victory over the Hawks on Friday. Our Lady of Good Counsel's win was all the more impressive since the Hawks were averaging only 2.77 runs allowed on the season.
The team relied heavily on Giselle Reyes, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Elizabeth Stone also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bishop McNamara). They blew past Southern Maryland Christian Academy 21-0 on Thursday. With that victory, Bishop McNamara brought their scoring average up to 6.9 runs per game.
Isabella Webb made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Christina Brown was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jaslyne Ivey, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Bishop McNamara was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
The win got Bishop McNamara back to even at 7-7. As for Our Lady of Good Counsel, their record is now 7-4.
Everything went Our Lady of Good Counsel's way against Bishop McNamara in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Our Lady of Good Counsel made off with a 9-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
