Even though the Chaparral Pumas scored an imposing 57 points on Friday, the Murrieta Valley Nighthawks still came out on top. Murrieta Valley took their matchup against Chaparral 67-57. Given Murrieta Valley's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 171st, while Chaparral is ranked 656th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Parker Steffen was his usual excellent self, scoring 17 points along with eight assists and four steals. He hasn't dropped below 15points for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Brady Jones, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Murrieta Valley pushed their record up to 14-7 with that victory, which was their 11th straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.4 points per game. As for Chaparral, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-14.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Murrieta Valley will take on Temecula Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Temecula Valley has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 259 points over their last four contests. As for Chaparral, they will head out on the road to challenge Vista Murrieta at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Vista Murrieta focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday.
