The Roxana Shells put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 52-14 win over Marquette Catholic. Fans of Roxana have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season ended as a blowout.
Roxana's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Evan Wells, who rushed for 94 yards and three touchdowns. Wells was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 50 yards. Mason Crump also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Roxana's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. Leading the way was Keylon Caruthers and his two sacks.
Roxana's win was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 9-0. As for Marquette Catholic, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.
Roxana will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Paris at 3:00 p.m. Paris will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 322nd, while Roxana is ranked 51st). Marquette Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
