San Marin has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Acalanes Dons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only San Marin walked away with it. They claimed a resounding 59-7 win over the Pumas at home. Given San Marin's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 87th, while Maria Carrillo is ranked 407th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
San Marin's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dominic Ingrassia led the charge by throwing for 143 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 passes. Zack Farbstein and his 87 yards on the ground were also a key factor in San Marin's victory.
Meanwhile, Acalanes was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Vallejo 56-20 at home. With Acalanes ahead 35-7 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Acalanes' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Trevor Rogers, who threw for 132 yards and two touchdowns while completing 88.9% of his passes, and Jack Miller, who rushed for 76 yards and three touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Paul Kuhner, who picked up 78 receiving yards and a touchdown.
San Marin's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-0. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 35.2 points. As for Acalanes, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 8-4 record this season.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as San Marin and Acalanes have no problem gaining yardage. San Marin has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 404.3 total yards per game. However, it's not like Acalanes struggles in that department as they've been even better at 410.2 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
San Marin was able to grind out a solid victory over Acalanes when the teams last played back in August, winning 27-20. The rematch might be a little tougher for San Marin since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
