Division III recap Oct. 16, 2012
Middletown extended the longest winning streak in Division III this week by beating Lincoln, 61-8. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
Narragansett was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fourth in the league. Earlier in the week, the Mariners defeated Smithfield 28-21.
Eric Cosmopulos put up the best numbers through the air as Moses Brown topped Classical. He finished with a total of six completions for 133 yards and one touchdown. Cosmopulos' favorite target this week was Nate Farrington, who caught one pass for 77 yards.
Carney Crawford was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 236 yards on 36 carries as East Greenwich lost to the Quakers. Alex Cleary also contributed to the rushing game with 28 yards on the ground.
Shea was the best wideout in Division III this week as Classical lost to Moses Brown. Shea racked up seven receptions for 117 yards. Julio Tavarez helped Classical's passing attack out by catching four balls for 78 yards.
Kris Mccall's team's Griffin Clark and Shea have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-4 quarterback Clark has thrown for 741 yards this season, while Shea has 20 catches for 366 yards. Crawford from the Avengers leads the league in rushing with 950 yards.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Willie Edwards' team and Middletown. The Quakers enters the contest ranked 13th in the state, while Andrew Leys' team ranks 10th.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Moses Brown takes on the Islanders. The Quakers have allowed 56 points this season, while Middletown has given up 56. Moses Brown allowed 3 points last week as it beat the Purples.
The Islanders took down the Lions 61-8 last week, the largest margin of any game.
