Magnet Cove has gone a perfect 3-0 against Gurdon recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Panthers will venture away from home to face off against the Go-Devils at 4:30 p.m. Magnet Cove will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
Magnet Cove had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Murfreesboro on Tuesday. The Panthers blew past the Rattlers 17-2. That looming 17-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Panthers yet this season.
Gurdon never got on the board in their matchup on Saturday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Parkers Chapel on Monday. They put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 14-1 victory. Considering the Go-Devils have won four games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Sadie Griffin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Griffin was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Gurdon got a massive performance out of Alli Riley, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave Riley a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Penelope Lanton, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Gurdon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .719. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Magnet Cove's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 11.0 runs this season. As for Gurdon, their record is now 6-2.
Everything went Magnet Cove's way against Gurdon when the teams last played back in March of 2025, as Magnet Cove made off with a 10-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
