On Friday, the Parkersburg Big Reds faced the Hurricane Redskins in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Parkersburg was the clear victor by a 47-23 margin over Hurricane. Parkersburg pushed the score to 40-15 by the end of the third, a deficit Hurricane cut but never quite recovered from.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Parkersburg to victory, but perhaps none more so than David Parsons, who threw for 192 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. Parkersburg also got a significant boost from Jason Williams, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 131 yards.
Several Redskins players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tyshawn Dues, who picked up 160 receiving yards and a touchdown. Dues' longest reception was for an incredible 82 yards. Kylan Grace was another key contributor, rushing for 83 yards and a touchdown.
Parkersburg pushed their record up to 7-4 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 South Charleston and 1-9 St. Albans (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 28.2% over those games). As for Hurricane, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-3.
Parkersburg will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Princeton at 7:30 p.m. on November 17th. One thing working in Princeton's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last eight contests. Hurricane does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
