Softball Game Preview: Jay Mustangs vs. Southwest Legacy Titans

The Jay Mustangs will venture away from home to square off against the Southwest Legacy Titans at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Jay will be strutting in after a victory while Southwest Legacy will be coming in after a defeat.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, Jay turned things around against Winn on Thursday. They came out on top against the Mavericks by a score of 7-2.

Esperanza Amezquita spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jennifer Galindo was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Zareth Gomez, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.

Meanwhile, Southwest Legacy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They lost 18-3 to Southwest.

Amy Saul made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.

Southwest Legacy's loss dropped their record down to 3-18. As for Jay, their win bumped their record up to 6-15.

Southwest Legacy's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. Jay has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Southwest Legacy, though, as they've been averaging only 2.4 strikeouts. Will Jay keep running through batters, or will the Titans buck the trend?

Jay was able to grind out a solid victory over Southwest Legacy in their previous matchup back in March, winning 8-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
