The Canterbury Crusaders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their sixth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a rough 81-52 loss at the hands of St. Petersburg Catholic. Canterbury was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Barons apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2022.
Kayden Calhoun and Lou Donnelly certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Calhoun scored 30 points along with two steals, while Donnelly scored 18 points along with six rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Calhoun has scored all season. Charles Wilder was another key contributor, scoring no points along with 16 rebounds.
St. Petersburg Catholic had a senior duo take command as Nick Berry dropped a double-double on 28 points and ten rebounds and Tj Newton dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Berry is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 19 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Josh Grobmyer, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds.
Canterbury has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 12 of their last 13 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-17 record this season. As for St. Petersburg Catholic, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-15.
Canterbury will play host again and welcome the Vikings, where tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Northeast is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for St. Petersburg Catholic, they will head out on the road to face off against the Warriors at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Osceola focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Monday.
