Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 12 to 3 on the offensive boards, a fact the Mammoth Huskies proved on Friday. They came out on top against California City by a score of 50-37. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Mammoth.
Mammoth got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Matt Toomey out in front who scored six points along with 21 rebounds and five assists. Toomey has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last four times he's played. Forest Daniels was another key contributor, scoring 20 points.
California City's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Carlito Brown, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and two steals, and Cassius 'Hollywood' Brown who scored nine points along with four blocks. Brown also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Darrius Brown, who scored four points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Mammoth's win bumped their record up to 12-9. As for California City, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mammoth will take on Desert at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Desert is coming into the matchup with four straight losses at home, meaning Mammoth will have to defend against a team hungry for a victory. As for California City, they will head out on the road to square off against Bishop Union at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. California City and Bishop Union are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
