The Laguna Creek Cardinals posted their biggest victory since December 28, 2023 on Wednesday. They put the hurt on McClatchy with a sharp 77-51 win. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 36-16.
Laguna Creek can attribute much of their success to Tylen Lomax, who scored 20 points along with six steals and five assists. That's the first time this season that Lomax scored 15 or more points. Kj Ramey was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Eugene Castillo and Kendall Andrews certainly did their best on Wednesday to try and avoid the loss. Castillo scored 16 points along with six rebounds, while Andrews dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Vincent Seyford, who scored nine points.
Laguna Creek has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. As for McClatchy, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-15.
Laguna Creek will be playing at home against Kennedy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Kennedy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Wednesday. As for McClatchy, they will head out on the road to challenge River City at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. River City has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
