Warsaw has gone 9-1 against Concord recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Tigers will head out to challenge the Minutemen at 5:30 p.m. Warsaw is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Warsaw saw some tournament action on Saturday. They put the hurt on Tippecanoe Valley with a sharp 18-1 victory. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Reed Nelson looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Warsaw got a massive performance out of Grady Nelson, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That's the most stolen bases Nelson has posted over his last 12 matchups. Cohen Heady was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
Warsaw always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tippecanoe Valley only posted an OBP of .167.
Concord came out on top against South Bend Riley on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run second inning. The Minutemen had just enough and edged out the Wildcats 5-4.
Alex Jimenez looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Concord: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 6-11 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Alex Kridler, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Mark Herman also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Warsaw's record is now 16-8. As for Concord, their record now sits at 8-12.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Warsaw has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Concord struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Warsaw came out on top in a nail-biter against Concord in their previous meeting on May 2nd, sneaking past 6-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
